Cultivation and collection:-

It’s grown by seed germination. It can also be propagated by Budding or cutting. it does not tolerate the frost or drought .it is normally found up to an attitude of 4500 ft. commercially, it is collected from wild grown plants, but in particular it is produced in North India, Awadh, Bihar and Eastern territories.

Fertilizers in the dose-range of 750-900 Gms of urea, 1 kg superphosphate and 1 to 1.5 kg of potash per annum depending upon the quality of soil are sufficient. The above dose is divided into two equal part is applied in September/October while the order in April to may every year. Pruning is done regularly and only 4 to 6 branches about 0.75 to 1.0 meter above the ground are retained. Plant bears male and female flowers separately. Fruits are fleshy obscurely 4 lobed with 6-trigonus seeds. They are very hard and smooth in appearance.

Chemical organization:-

The following is the chemical organization of Amla.

  • 821 mg in 100 grams of juice and 720 mg. vitamin C is found in the pulp.

Artificial regeneration:-

Seedling has been raised successfully by sowing seeds in the nursery about March, watering regularly but sparingly and protecting the Seedlings for the first few months from the sun and from heavy rain. If the beds are regularly weeded, the Seedlings should be large enough to plant out in the first rainy season, but care is necessary not to expose the roots, as the seedlings are somewhat sensitive to transplanting. Best result will be obtained if the showing is done at the commencement of the rainy season and subsequently weeding is done regularly. Tolerably well shocked lines can be ensured by thinning out congested feelings during the first rainy season and using the surplus plant for the filling up gaps. One kilogram seeds contain about 400 to 450 seeds.

For the production of ten-bark, which is probably the chief use to which the tree will be put in future, coppice is the system indicated; through the best rotation remain to be ascertained. The concentration of supplies of bark over a limited area can be secured only by artificial reproduction the growth of young plant is fairly rapid, but subsequent growth appears to be somewhat slow.

Chemical constituent:-

Fruit is a rich natural source of vitamin C. It also contains tannins and colloidal substances, phyllemblin acid, Lipids, gallic acid, ellagic acid corilagin and emblicol. Phyllemblin or mucic acid has been isolated from the fruit pulp. The plant is used in the treatment of anemia, anorexia, beriberi, biliary cirrhosis, burning urination, dehydration, diabetes, diarrhea, dysentery, dyspepsia, excessive menstruation,fever, flatulency, gastric, gall pain, general weakness, hair fall, hemorrhoids, hyper acidity, hypertension, impotence, insomnia, jaundice, leucorrhoea, nausea, nervous debility of edema, ophthalmia, paralysis, promotes, children’s resistance to cold and cough, pyemia, respiratory troubles, scurvy, skin problems, tapeworm infestations, tympanites, ulcer and vomiting. High cholesterols, loosens plaque in aorta, detoxify fatty liver.
